SVG Icon Library
260+ resolvable TTRPG map icons for D&D battle maps, world maps, and dungeon floor plans — searchable, theme-adaptive SVG symbols
Quick Answer
260+ resolvable SVG map icons (231 direct + 107 aliases) used across world, region, battle, and establishment maps — automatically theme-adaptive (parchment, clean, dark, print). Browse the gallery below to filter by tier, search by name, and preview icons across all four themes.
CritForge includes 231 hand-crafted SVG icons across three tiers, plus 107 aliases that map common furniture and terrain names to the correct icon. That gives you roughly 260+ resolvable icon keys for world maps, region maps, battle maps, and establishment interiors. Every icon adapts to the active map theme (parchment, clean, dark, print).

Icon Tiers
Cartographic (36 icons)
Side-view silhouette glyphs for world and region map points of interest. These appear as small markers beside place-name labels on world maps and as landmark icons on region maps.
Examples: city, town, village, fortress, tower, dungeon, ruins, cave, mountain, forest, volcano
Maritime (new): lighthouse, shipwreck, sea_fort, reef -- designed for coastal region maps where ocean POIs need distinct silhouettes.
Tactical (160 icons)
Top-down plan-view symbols for grid-based battle maps (1 square = 5 ft). Clean geometric shapes based on architectural floor-plan conventions. A GM should recognize each symbol at a glance.
Categories:
- Furniture -- table, chair, bed, bookcase, chest, barrel, throne, desk, wardrobe
- Terrain -- wall segment, doors (normal, secret, locked), water pool, pit, vegetation, rock
- Hazards -- spike trap, fire trap, poison gas, pressure plate, falling net, alarm glyph
- Lighting -- campfire, arcane_circle, portal, candelabra
- Interactive -- lever, portcullis, ladder, staircase, bridge, teleporter
- Craft and dungeon -- anvil, cauldron, weapon_rack, fence, mirror, sarcophagus, cage, torture_rack (added for print-quality battle maps)
POI markers: Battle maps also render colored point-of-interest markers for hazard (warning), door_condition (door state), patrol_waypoint (guard routes), and lighting_zone (light sources). These appear as labeled circles on the GM view and are hidden from the player export where appropriate.
Establishment (35 icons)
Specialized interior variants for specific building types. Where a generic tactical icon exists (e.g., table), establishment icons provide purpose-specific variants (e.g., bar counter, dining table, kitchen counter).
Examples: bar_counter, forge_hearth, anvil, weapon_rack, potion_shelf, inn_bed, stable_stall, shrine_altar
Theme Adaptation
All icons use shared color helpers that resolve per theme:
| Helper | Parchment | Clean | Dark | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fill | Warm brown (80% opacity) | Neutral gray (75%) | Warm light (85%) | Medium gray |
| Stroke | Dark brown (85%) | Near-black (80%) | Light cream (90%) | Dark gray |
| Accent | Deep brown | Charcoal | Warm gold | Black |
| Water | Blue-gray (70%) | Blue (70%) | Light blue (70%) | Medium gray |
Using Icons in Maps
Icons are automatically selected based on the content your map generates:
- World maps use cartographic icons for terrain zones (mountain, forest, desert) and landmark pins
- Region maps use cartographic icons for settlement and POI markers
- Battle maps use tactical icons for furniture, terrain features, and hazards
- Establishment interiors use establishment icons, falling back to tactical icons for shared items
Alias System
The icon library includes 107 aliases that map Kenney sprite catalog keys (used by the on-screen Pixi renderer) to the corresponding SVG icon. This means the SVG print export covers the same furniture and terrain types you see on screen -- nothing gets lost when you switch to print mode.
How it works: When the SVG renderer encounters a sprite key like bed_bunk, it looks up the alias and resolves it to the bed icon. You don't need to do anything -- the mapping is automatic.
Common alias examples:
| Sprite key | Resolves to |
|---|---|
| bed_bunk, bed_double, bed_single | bed |
| bookcase_open, bookcase_closed, bookshelf | bookcase |
| dungeon_barrel, quench_barrel | barrel |
| torch, lamp, candle | brazier |
| stool, lounge_chair | chair |
| dungeon_chest | chest |
| stable, kennel | fence |
Aliases also cover broad category names (door resolves to door_normal, trap resolves to trap_marker) and building-level shortcuts (tavern resolves to table, temple resolves to altar).

Frequently Asked Questions
What icons are available for battle maps? Battle maps use the 160 tactical tier icons, which include furniture (tables, chairs, beds, thrones), terrain features (water pools, pits, vegetation), structural elements (walls, doors, stairs), traps and hazards (spike traps, pressure plates, poison gas), lighting (campfire, candelabra), siege weapons (ballista, catapult), craft and dungeon props (anvil, cauldron, cage, torture rack), and weapons. Battle maps also render POI markers for hazards, door conditions, patrol routes, and lighting zones. See the full list in the Tactical Icons section above.
What icons appear on world maps? World maps use the 36 cartographic tier icons, which are side-view silhouette glyphs for terrain features (mountain, forest, volcano, hills, lake), points of interest (city, town, village, fortress, dungeon, ruins, port, mine), and maritime landmarks (lighthouse, shipwreck, sea fort, reef).
Can I customize which icons appear on my maps? Icons are automatically selected based on the terrain, biome, and features that your map generates. The system matches terrain types to the appropriate icon from the library.
Do icons look different in print mode? Yes. Every icon adapts to four themes: parchment (warm browns), clean (neutral grays), dark (light cream on dark background), and print (high-contrast black and gray for paper printing). Use the theme toggle in the gallery above to preview all four styles.
What are establishment icons? Establishment icons are specialized variants of tactical icons designed for specific building types like taverns, temples, forges, and stables. They provide purpose-specific symbols (bar counter, forge hearth, shrine altar) instead of generic furniture icons.
Can I request a new icon to be added to the library? Yes! Open the Report an Issue dialog from your account dropdown menu (top-right corner) and describe the icon you need. Include the map type (world, battle, establishment) and what the icon should represent. We review all requests and add popular ones in future updates.
