Conversation Management
How to rename, delete, search, and organize your CritForge conversation history.
Quick Answer
Every generation session is saved as a conversation you can rename, search, and delete. Access your history from the sidebar, use the search bar to find any NPC or encounter you've created, and rename conversations to keep your library organized.
Overview
Every time you use CritForge to generate content — NPCs, maps, encounters, plots — the conversation is saved to your history. You can rename conversations to keep track of what's in them, delete ones you no longer need, and search across everything you've ever generated.
How conversation history works
CritForge automatically saves each generation session as a conversation. A conversation captures the messages you sent, the content CritForge produced, and the type of content (NPC, map, encounter, etc.).
Conversations are private to your account and persist indefinitely unless you delete them.
Finding old conversations
Go to Dashboard > Chat History to see all your past conversations.
Each card shows:
- The conversation name (or an auto-generated title if you haven't renamed it)
- The content type (NPC, map, encounter, etc.)
- How long ago it was last updated
To search, type in the search bar at the top of the chat history page. Search looks across conversation names and content — so you can find "Grunk the Brave" even if the conversation is titled "Session 3."
You can also filter by content type to narrow down results. For example, filter to NPC to see only character generation sessions.
Renaming a conversation
Give your conversations meaningful names so you can find them later. There are two ways to rename.
From the dashboard
- Go to Dashboard > Chat History.
- Find the conversation you want to rename.
- Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the conversation card.
- Select Rename.
- Type the new name — you can use any characters, including emojis.
- Click Save.
Names can be up to 200 characters. A counter in the dialog tracks how many you've used.
From the chat window
While in a conversation, type /rename followed by the new name:
/rename Session 4 - The Bandit Camp
You can also use plain language:
rename conversation The Lost Artifact Quest
The conversation title updates immediately and will appear under that name in your history.
Deleting a conversation
Deleting a conversation removes it permanently. There's no undo.
- Go to Dashboard > Chat History.
- Find the conversation you want to delete.
- Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the conversation card.
- Select Delete.
- Confirm when prompted.
Tips for staying organized
- Name conversations as you go. Use
/renameright after you start a session so you don't have to hunt it down later. - Include the session number or campaign name. For example:
Session 7 - Eve's Thieves Guild ArcorGrunk the Brave - Tank NPC. - Use the content type filter. If you generate a lot of NPCs, filter to NPC in chat history to see only character sessions.
- Search by character or place name. The search bar looks inside your generated content, not just conversation titles — so searching for a specific NPC name will surface the right session even with a generic title.
